Sweet Blood of Mine

Sweet Blood of Mine (Overworld Chronicles) - John Corwin

This one was a DNF for me. I tried to persevere, because I wanted to like it, I really did, but I just got too irked by the character, I’m afraid. I also had a few issues with the writing—mostly tense switches and my usual complaints. But the biggest reason I called it a day was because 1), I’d hit 36% and not a whole lot had happened; 2) I then went to check out other reviews and they pretty much all said the same: the best part of the book is the final ¼. I’m sorry but 75% into the book is a long time to ask me to keep going before you catch my interest—so kudos to the readers who pushed through that far to find out; 3) whilst Justin’s personality-doused narration was amusing and chuckle-worthy to begin, its constantness got on my wick after a short while, and I also found that he just wasn’t that likeable a character, so I couldn’t sympathise with him, or bring myself to care about what happened to him—and this is very important to me, personally, if I’m to connect with a book.

So I’ve decided not to continue for those reasons mentioned above. Though, I do urge you to decide for yourselves, as quite a few people have really enjoyed this one, so you may too.
